Operating Manual For Spaceship Earth, NFTs & The Sacred, Invitations and Updates
Buckminster Fuller reading group, recent episodes, and more.
To circulation,
Operating Manual For Spaceship Earth is a short book by Buckminster Fuller, known to many as a visionary genius. His ideas were penned many decades ago and are yet so relevant to metabolize today.
We are going to host a four part, fortnightly reading and discussion group at https://www.voicecraft.network to move through this work together.
For those interested, if you’re not part of the network already, I invite you to check out the landing page and consider requesting to join. The ‘request to join’ questions asked are important, and if the opportunity to connect and participate is meaningful to you, then your response to those questions is a principal way to communicate that.
The first session takes place on the 20th (US) / 21st (AU) December — convened in the Reading Portal Space inside voicecraft.network. There’s a pdf if you don’t have a hard copy.
Other upcoming events in the network include ‘Stories of Community Building’ w/ Joe Lightfoot, and more.
There have been more than 40 sessions convened in the network in the last 12 months, including the Dialogic Guides Course, Culture Lab Series, Commons Series, Freeform Sessions, Sharing Story, a live podcast session, and more. Many of those were recorded and shared with the network.
On the podcast,
The last published episode was titled NFT's & The Sacred, with the brilliant trio Anderson Todd, Tyler Hollett and Evan McMullen. You can listen / watch / access links here.
Previous to that was a deeply valuable dialogue between John Vervaeke and Forrest Landry. Recorded in August 2021, it’s a profound intellectual journey into the depths of the meaning crisis and existential risk in the context of generative response.
It was a big effort to bring this together. Given the substance that was shared, I think it might well be one of the most important intellectual characterizations of the ills of present culture crystallized in a recorded artefact.
You can listen / watch / and read more here.
And in case you missed it, this is the second dialogue featuring John and Forrest hosted on the podcast. The first was in E54, for which there is a full and manually edited transcript you can listen to and access here.
Finishing up, then, for those of you who are podcast listeners only and might not track releases on YouTube, occasionally things appear there which don’t make it on the podcast. One such recent conversation was with Gregg Henriques. Gregg kindly agreed to hear out and riff on some long standing work of mine that is the subject of meaningful and ongoing inquiry. Namely, ideas relating to what I term the Modes of Orientation, and a triad of concepts which I find useful to think about cultivating culture, Belonging, Education, and Contribution.
You watch that dialogue here if interested.
And a huge thank you to my partner Taryn for her incredible artworks over the last few years. Each of the drawings contained in the images above are her handiwork. To check out just a very small fraction of her ongoing artistic journey, you can check our her Instagram here.
