Dear listener,
Episode 66 of the podcast welcomes O.G. Rose (in the form of Daniel Garner: philosopher, writer, farmer, piano teacher, and one of the most brilliant individuals I know) for a conversation that shares on themes which are (no surprises here) fundamental to the philosophy of the Voicecraft project.
… Actually — this one’s a little different.
In fact, this episode saw O.G. Rose welcome me to the dialogue, and it was a beautiful opportunity to share aspects of the thinking and dedication which fuel core work in my life, but about which I don’t think I’ve spoken publicly on like this before.
Daniel’s many contributions to this dialogue inspired me to shape a module of the upcoming Transformative Philosophy course around the topic ‘The Phenomenology of Voice’, in which he will be teaching and participating. Transformative Philosophy begins in October.
The conversation waypoints are below. I hope you enjoy the journey.
The importance of communication and qualities of conversation to philosophy
Finding flow in conversation
The friction of difference and status anxiety, magnified in the digital age
Humility, strength, gentleness
The importance of the ‘meta’ dimension to communication that can engage and navigate difference
The evolution of technology splitting the vision of mankind and how we respond to it
The importance of meta conceived as both lower and higher, grounded in heart and body and able to access vision capable of understanding and integrating the horizontal into a wiser view of reality.
Philosophy as a holistic meta-praxis in the world as a response to the violence that stems from misunderstanding.
Participatory wisdom commons, economics, energy
Environment, loves, habits --> makes you
philosophy of invitation & the philosophy of crafting voice
Participating in truth, dialogos and bringing forth the mystery
Transformative philosophy and the courage to be
Self-forgetfulness
This conversation was posted on O.G. Rose’s channel in May (where Daniel and Michelle host many excellent conversations.) Daniel has become an active and core part of the Voicecraft Network, and I am deeply grateful for the time, energy, kindness and support both he and Michelle share. As a pair and family on a farm in Virginia, they truly are remarkable people who enrich the worlds of the communities they are a part of.
They also have a new book releasing September 16, titled Thoughts - and if you sign up to their Substack here I am sure you will receive notification when it’s available on Amazon.
Discernment on the Way,
Tim
